Blogging is a funny thing. Sometimes I write from the heart, laboring for hours on a post I believe will inspire or help fellow horse-loving friends/readers. I hit publish and. . . crickets.  Other times I write posts that are basic and in my mind, not as compelling, and those get higher traffic and shares! In case you’re new to Saddle Seeks Horse or you’re a long-time reader in need of a refresher, these are my most heavily trafficked pages, my top 10 blog posts of 2018. I Published a Book!

Before we get started I want to share with you a few of my personal top 10 blog posts this year that did not make the cut, but were important to me. First, my biggest accomplishment of the year was finally publishing Horses Adored and Men Endured, my horse lover’s dating memoir. These true tales of lame men and gentlemanly horses had literally been a passion project of mine for about ten years. I’m so happy my stories are now out in the world and being enjoyed by fellow horse lovers. Read more about it in this blog post.

My Horse Was Diagnosed with Kissing Spine

This year has been a challenge in that I discovered my horse Knight has kissing spine. Say what? I didn’t even really know what kissing spine is until I saw his X-rays that literally show some of his vertebrae “kissing.” I found a few people who have experience in working with horses with kissing spine who have helped me and I’m looking forward to see his progression in 2019. Stay tuned! Meanwhile enjoy Who to Listen to When Your Horse Has Kissing Spine.

I Joined a Fox Hunt! (and have had the time of my life)

When a Facebook post popped up in my feed regarding a fox hunting clinic on my birthday, I persuaded my friend Amy to go too! Long story short, the horses were awesome, the people so kind and wonderful, the scenery breathtaking. I was hooked and I look forward to doing this for as long as I am able to ride. Here are all the deets on My First Fox Hunt.

10. Horse Halloween Costume Ideas

I’ve pinned this blog post on Pinterest and the traffic surges in September and October. If you need quick and easy ideas for next Halloween, check it out.

9. How Not to Behave on Equestrian Social Media

How Not to Behave on Equestrian Social Media evolved as several fellow blogger/influencer friends and I were talking about how there really is no training on how to have good citizenship on social media. People steal photos or ask for free things possibly because no one has told them it’s not okay.

8. 20 Answers to Your Questions About Equine Gastric Ulcers

This extensive interview I did a year ago with a veterinarian still helps people with ulcery horses (I know all about that!).

7. Breaking in New Riding Boots the Easy Way

I had no idea there were cheats you could use to evade blisters until a friend from a previous barn and a friend who works at Mary’s Tack and Feed gave me some great ideas. When I found these out, I had to share!

6. Fitbit for Horseback Riding: Fun Facts and Features

I’ve long been a Fitbit fan and have found it fascinating to compare my gym workouts or dog walking to riding. My first Fitbit was the first version of the Charge, then I progressed to the Blaze. I just got this new Samsung Galaxy Watch for Christmas. Stay tuned for future blog posts on how that works.

5. 7 Fast Facts About Masterson Method Equine Bodywork

After 2017’s Canyon Fire 2 evacuation, I connected with a Masterson Method bodywork professional. I have long had chiropractic care and occasionally massage for my horses over the years, but the Masterson Method was new to me. This post shows what I learned.

4. How to Grieve the Loss of a Horse in 10 Not-So-Easy Steps

A few months ago a mom from South Africa emailed me to thank me for writing this blog post. Her daughter lost her pony and mom must have Googled and found this post. She said it comforted her and her daughter, helping them feel like they weren’t alone. That is one of the reasons I blog. I have been blessed by the encouragement and stories of fellow equestrians around the world–some I’ve met in real life and have become friends with, some I hope to meet in the future.

3. How to Fix a Broken Zipper on your Boot

This is an ancient blog post! I wrote it in 2014, and it came about out of desperation. My zipper broke after a riding lesson and I had to walk around with my hubby on our way to dinner with a half on boot. I thought I’d be stuck in breeches the rest of my life. He tried to pry it off my leg and foot. It was like a Friends or other silly sitcom episode. Apparently I’m not the only one.

2. 18 Horse-Themed Instagram Accounts to Follow in 2018

From a fox hunting photographer to an ethical SoCal horse rescue to popular Instagram influencers, these are a handful of the accounts I enjoy following on Instagram.

1. 5 Fitness Trackers for Horseback Riding and Beyond

Did you notice a theme? Equestrians are interested in using fitness trackers! My 2019 goal is to update the fitness tracker posts and provide new info on my new smart watch.
