I never thought I’d be a person who likes the open shelving concept in my kitchen, but I now know I’m that kind of person thanks to the help of cute fox washi tape! Let me explain: a recent relocation so I could be closer to my school inspired many a Google search “how to cover up oak cabinets.” In the short term, I don’t have the time to plan an overhaul with paint or even peel-and-stick wallpaper in this dated kitchen.

This is the washi tape I used for my shelves. Keep scrolling to see the end result.

A few DIY blogs I read said an easy way to lighten and brighten up a kitchen is to simply remove some of the doors off the kitchen cabinets. I’m not very handy, but I do own a couple of screwdrivers, so I thought I would try it out.

I’m happy to report it was remarkably easy to take off the cabinet doors! Who knew?

Now that I said “later” to the cabinet doors, I’m really enjoy both the brightness of the kitchen and the ease of not having to open and close a door when taking a bowl off the shelf or putting back coffee mugs after they’re washed.

As much as I was on board with my DIY hack, something was a little drab. So I kept Googling.

That’s when I met washi tape for decorating.

Thanks to all the home decor bloggers and artsy craftsy types, I noticed washi tape being used to line the edge of shelving for kitchen cabinets in some of the super cute photos online.

Searching for Horse and Fox Washi Tape

Inspired, I began searching Etsy for horse-themed washi tape, and found several, which I’m linking to here in the event you’d like to have some horse and/or fox wash tape too (each photo is a link you can click through).

If you’re not familiar with washi tape, it’s tape that you can use for a variety of cute, craftsy type things like scrapbooking, using for regular tape if you just need a break from boring, or snazzing up a journal, for example. The sticky part of washi tape is kind of Post-It note-ish–it adheres, but you can easily remove it.

Cute, right?

I couldn’t decide between the cute fox tape and this vintage horse washi tape, so I ordered both. I am awaiting my shipment of the horse tape, so I forged ahead with the fox tape in my kitchen.

Here are some horsey-themed tapes I found on Etsy which you might also fancy. Each photo is a clickable link, so have fun browsing!

Horse and Fox Washi Tape

This tape will also look great in the kitchen. as I have a black and white theme emerging.

For the unicorn fan.

Didn’t notice this horse washi tape when I first shopped, but I think I need it.

For a more colorful look or fans of Sweden.

The designs and backgrounds are so diverse on washi tape.

I thought this would be cute for a little boy or girl equestrian.

So thanks to the fox washi tape, I can now feel cheerful in the kitchen, even though the cabinetry isn’t really my style.

Thanks for reading and tally ho!
