If you’ve ever tried shopping for a horse person, you know it’s not easy. Do they really need another pair of gloves? (Probably.) Will they actually use that fancy grooming tool? (Maybe.) Whether you’re shopping for your trainer, barn bestie, or the horse-crazy kid in your life, this guide rounds up gift ideas that are both fun and functional — because horse people appreciate things that work as hard as they do.
From cozy sweatshirts that make barn chores bearable to meaningful gifts that give back to the horses we love, these finds are perfect for spreading a little equestrian cheer this holiday season.

Equestrian Sweatshirts (& Beanies!)
When you’re breaking ice in water buckets or sweeping the barn aisle in December, comfort counts. I’m loving the fun and functional styles from Saddle Up Clothing Company.
The seasonal favorites collection packed with soft fleece pullovers features clever horse-girl sayings that will make you smile. This is a female-owned, Minnesota-born small business, and Margo (the owner) is a Chincoteague Pony owner and lover.
Whether you grab a hoodie for yourself or surprise your barn bestie with a cozy crewneck, these pieces are as comfy in the saddle as they are on a coffee run. Prices vary.

Equestrian Candles
Tis the season for chilly and downright c-c-cold, dark nights. A fragrant candle with a horsey vibe will illuminate your evenings and provide a soothing flicker to help you relax.
Stable and Fields candles pair well with Hallmark movie nights, soaking in an Epsom salt bath and holiday baking.
The Treats Please candle instantly transports you to the barn aisle with a pocket full of cookies, and your favorite horse begging for more. With warm notes of oatmeal, brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of cinnamon, it’s comfort and barn love wrapped in one irresistible scent. Each candle has been dreamed up and designed by Rosanna, an amateur dressage rider from New England. (She got bored during the pandemic and tried her hand at candlemaking, and the rest is history!)

Equestrian Book: Misty’s First Christmas (Buy 3 Get 1 FREE!)
If you’re looking for a cozy winter read, snuggle up with my new novella, Misty’s First Christmas. Inspired by the true story of Marguerite Henry and her beloved pony, Misty, it’s a heartwarming tale of friendship, faith, and the joy of the season. Here’s a quick description:
It’s 1946, and Marguerite Henry, a budding children’s book author, is writing a children’s book about a palomino pinto named Misty. However the silly filly slips out of her stall on Christmas Eve.
Will Marguerite’s upcoming book Misty of Chincoteague be in jeopardy since the main character has vanished? With determination, love and the help of a seasoned foxhunter, Marguerite sets off on an epic ride through the wintry countryside of Wayne, Illinois to bring home her pony.
Special Offer: Buy 3 Misty’s First Christmas novellas from my author store and you’ll get 1 FREE! No discount code needed. CLICK HERE to shop.

Equestrian Throw
What better way to be truly cozy than by curling up with an equestrian-themed blanket?
The In 2 Green Cheval Throw is a classy statement piece that will look great draped over the back of your sofa or at the foot of your bed (when not providing extra comfort and warmth, wrapping you up in an earth-friendly hug).
I like the neutral color palate shown here, but there is also a more colorful option, with a dark brown horse that looks a little like my off-track Thoroughbred!
This made in the USA throw is 60 x 50 inches and made of 75% recycled cotton and 25% polyester (also, mostly recycled!).

Stable Style Coffee Table Book – Volume II
For the equestrian who dreams of a tack room that could grace the pages of Architectural Digest, the Stable Style Book Volume II is a must-have.
It’s packed with stunning photography and design inspiration from barns and horse properties around the world. The kind of coffee-table book that makes you want to dust your tack trunk and add fun pillows to your feed room chair.
Whether you’re gifting it to a horsey friend with impeccable style or adding it to your own wish list, this book celebrates the beauty of life with horses, indoors and out. I’m obsessed with the white Countryside Barn in Tennessee and the Spanish-styled Gator Creek barn in Florida.
This book was created with love by my SoCal pal Raquel. Several years ago she launched her blog Stable Style to give us barn tours of dreamy equestrian properties. This book, Volume I ( she’s working on Volume III as I type this) grant barn fans entry to stables far and wide.

Epona Groom Kit
The avid horse lover can never have too many quality grooming products. My favorite line of brushes and tack cleaning cloths and sponges is by Epona, a female-owned small business founded by a rider who designed brushes for her sensitive horse.
(Read my blog post review of various Epona products here).
This starter kit with the popular curry, the Glossy Groomer, Quilted Cloud Soft Cloth, April Power Shower-Double sided tool (with a sponge on one side and the ever popular Tiger’s Tongue on the other) will be a welcome addition to any equestrian’s tack trunk.

Double-Sided Dressage + Jump Course Cutting Board
A bamboo cutting board, which can double as a fabulous charcuterie spread? Yes please!
This equestrian home goods item from Hunt Seat Paper Co. is super fun with a dressage court on one side and a jump course on the other. Memorize your next dressage test while snacking away.
Visualize the perfect 20-meter circle by trotting a baby carrot around the board. The horsey fun is unlimited. Support a fellow horse girl at this female-owned business based in Southern California.

Waterproof, Insulated Boots by Ariat
From barn to ball field, these super comfortable (arch support awesomeness) Ariat Coniston lifestyle boots have been my go-to for the last five winters and muddy seasons. The footbed is wonderful, and the boots zip up the back.
I wore them once to a Big 10 football game in November, and I’ve also worn them riding my horse in the winter. Here’s my product review on these boots. They are so warm, and when I first tried them on at the tack shop where I purchased them, a fellow shopper literally burst out, “Those look hot!” lol
I bought these boots at least 5 years ago, and they’re still going strong.

Breyer Model Horse
When we were kids, Breyer horses provided a gateway to flesh and bone horses. Even though I’m assuming you, like me, are also a grown up now, why not revive the joy of collecting horses in all shapes, sizes and breeds?
For the horse person who has everything (or is just tricky to shop for) you can purchase a Breyer model horse that closely resembles a real horse they love.
A thoughtful friend gifted me with the Tiz the Law model since it looks similar to my horse Tiz a Knight (and is a distant relative). Do you know a Secretariat, Snowman or Sergeant Reckless fan? There are models of those iconic equines.

Equestrian Decor: Personalized Stall Sign (for a Special Horse)
Etsy is a fantastic online destination when you’re trying to find a unique gift for the equestrian on your list, and a new stall sign for a special horse is a thoughtful gift.
Meaningful and practical, these make great wall art or practical decoration for your horse’s stall and keep beloved equine names close, whether hanging in the tack room or hanging in your home office.

Donate to Help Horses in Need
For the horse lover who truly has everything, a donation made in their name to an equine rescue or retirement organization is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate horses by helping those still waiting for their happy ending.
Two organizations I can attest to that are doing incredible work are:
- Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS): Based in Illinois, HAHS rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes neglected and abused equines and other hooved animals. They’ve been around since 1971 (and they are around the corner from where I board, and I’ve been to their farm several times).
- Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm: Located in Kentucky, this nonprofit provides lifelong sanctuary to retired racehorses, from past Kentucky Derby winners to beloved underdogs. Silver Charm, the 1997 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner is their most famous resident. He’s 31 and looks great.
Making a gift in someone’s name to one of these organizations spreads holiday cheer in the best possible way, from one horse lover’s heart to another’s.
Whether you’re shopping small or snagging a last-minute online find, what matters most is celebrating the joy horses bring to our lives (and the people who love them just as much).
Happy gifting and happy riding!
Thanks for reading. I’m curious to know what are a few of your go-to equestrian gifts? Share in the comments section. I much prefer shopping via word-of-mouth recommendation, you too?
