Check back here for my soon-to-be-released list of 21 Horse Instagram Accounts to follow in 2021!

If you ask me how I feel about Instagram, I’d say it’s complicated.

I LOVE it in that I’ve met some incredible people I am now friends with in real life. It’s a great way to communicate and find fellow horse lovers who “get” us. Horse Instagram also opens doors for a new method to shop as so many small equestrian businesses use Instagram to advertise. I have even sold copies of my book Horses Adored and Men Endured as a result of using Instagram! Pretty cool.

Thoughts About Following Horse Instagram Accounts

What I don’t love about Instagram is that I get sucked into it at times when I should be having meaningful connection with the humans or dogs in the room with me. My older sister (not on social media) made a comment recently about Instagram being all for show–people bragging and posturing. I can see her point. That happens.

However, since things got a little too political for my liking on Facebook a couple of years ago–I’ve invested more time in Instagram as a way to see pretty ponies and interact with friends. It reminds me a bit of how Facebook used to be, but with better quality photos. Come follow along with my handsome OTTB Knight and me!

With that as background info, I now present several of the accounts, that I enjoy following on Instagram. Before we begin, I am sensitive to the fact that by designating these 19 (because it’s 2019) I am leaving some people out, and I am conflicted about that.

If you have an Instagram account not in this list and would like to be followed, please leave your info in the comments section for this blog post. The more the merrier. I want to be inclusive, however I don’t think anyone in their right mind would read a blog post titled 1,900 or 2,019 Equestrian Instagram accounts to follow in 2019.! Just sayin’.

@equineendeavor is run by Lauren, a passionate equestrian and vet student at UC Davis. She knows so much about horses! She’s a stallion manager and has learned all about artificial insemination and those other magical, science-y horsey things. Her adorable OTTB Gallon will make you smile too. I like the depth in her post writing as she communicates from the heart.

@eyesupdarling is the homebase for Canadian equestrian Kaitlin, owner of a lovely chestnut jumper named Lex, now sporting a thunderbolt on his hindquarters thanks to a fun winter clipping. Kaitlin is a fellow blogger with a desire to see a more diversity represented in equine media and advertising. Read her recent blog post open letter HERE.

@horseglam if you need style inspiration to look chic from stable to street, Andrea is your girl. Her fashion and horse lifestyle account is meticulously photographed and curated, worthy of publication in any fashion magazine. The adult amateur rider and mom writes her blog from the perspective of her beautiful bay mare Chloe, which is a refreshing twist on equestrian blogs. Follow Lady Mary’s doppelganger (Downton Abbey reference) to step up your fashion game.

@thehunt_eq is the account for California equestrian Karina who competes in jumpers on her mare Quinn. Karina is one of those lovely individuals I have gotten to meet in person and our paths might not have crossed if Instagram didn’t exist. She is warm, smart and showcases the latest in equestrian fashion on her gorgeous blog of the same name as her Insta account. Her product reviews are authentic and she does a great job showcasing equestrian small businesses run by women. Her passion is helping riders find clothing items that fit well and make them feel confident.

@huntsmen-and-hounds You might remember a while back the feature on Michele Rozo the grown up horse girl behind the exciting apparel brand Huntsmen and Hounds. Michele is a true horsewoman and creative with a capital C. I love pretty much every thing in her product line and she’s a definite mover and shaker in the equestrian lifestyle realm.

@kesslereventing Jen Kessler is another fellow horse lover I’ve met in real life. She was kind enough to come to my book signing at Mary’s Tack and Feed around Christmas and pick up a copy of Horses Adored. Anyway, she has an jumping machine of an OTTB named Dante, and they make all the big, solid cross country fences I would never dare to try (I’d certainly die–not necessarily of injury–just fear) look like child’s play. Her enthusiasm for eventing is contagious–even if you never dream of pursuing that discipline.

@kristinleephotollc Funny and true story. I met Kristin on the red carpet in Los Angeles. It’s not what you’re thinking. We were media awaiting horse celebrities who were arriving for one of the Longines LA Masters (before it switched to New York). As the high profile horses paraded down the “runway” Kristin and I were there taking it all in and chatting in between. If you look up “hustle” in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Kristin there. She has labored tirelessly to bring beautiful horse photos to life. A number of her fabulous photos have been on the cover of magazines and she even did one that’s on a horse book! Kristin’s latest smashing success is a portrait of America’s dressage sweetheart, Laura Graves, riding a carousel horse on the cover of Sidelines magazine.

@lifebetweentheears is a curated account run by Kristine, an equestrian from the Pacific Northwest. Kristine is a graphic designer who took a break from riding to establish her career. When she got back in the saddle in her 40s she would take pictures of the glorious backdrop she rode through and used the hashtag #lifebetweentheears. The hashtag took off and now riders from all over the planet tag their photos and Kristine showcases the best of the best on her Facebook and Instagram accounts. For a virtual trip on horseback all around the world exploring diverse landscapes and cultures, follow @lifebetweentheears.

@marylandequestrian the carefully curated account of Laurie Berglie serves up fantastic hunt country-themed photos and other fun artsy shots. She also has great recommendations of other horse Instagram accounts to follow (see the next recommendation which I followed thanks to Laurie’s advice). Laurie’s an author too (with a new book just out! Check out the equestrian romance Kicking On when you click here.)

@nicomorgan has nailed the fox hunting lifestyle. The lighting in some of his hunt photos will make you swoon, as will the photos dedicated to foxhounds. And if you like sidesaddle shots and epic fall-off photos, give him a follow.

@shelleypaulsonphotography Shelley hails from Minnesota and captures phenomenal images of horses at work, at play and at rest. You’ve undoubtedly seen her photos in various horse magazines as she is an award-winning equestrian photographer who focuses on doing editorial, advertising, stock images and portraits. She’s even written a book titled Horses: Portraits and Stories. Shelley taught a session I attended at American Horse Publications annual conference, and she’s a skilled communicator too.

@silveroaksfarm Erin Kate and her horse hubby are living the equestrian dream with a chinchilla, lab, dressage ponies and epic mountain views from the back yard in Utah. Erin Kate’s a true artisan. She does fine needlework, makes jewelry, designed her dream barn, and takes gorgeous photos. With every photo of her house and barn shared on Instagram, I can’t decide if I need to convince her to come make over my house, adopt me as a sister, maybe cousin, or just convince her to divulge her design secrets. By the way, you have to visit her Etsy shop. (Thank me later.)

@sunshinefarmny  Jenn and her hubby Chris are millennial vegetarian homestead vloggers in upstate New York. They have horses. They have goats. And at the time of the writing, I think a ton of snow. Their huge garden is swoon-worthy (it will be, come spring). If you long for the country life, you can get a taste of it by following them.

@terisemcolephotography Terise is a fellow horse blogger over at Breeches and Boat Shoes and a New England gal with a hunky bay horse. We’ve met in real life at the American Horse Publications conference and she is really a fun person, as well as a fantastic photographer. You need to check out her recent photos of mid-winter beach polo! If you’re also in New England and need pretty pics with your horse, reach out to Terise. And tell her Susan sent you. 🙂

@triedequestrian I have a shopping tip and spark joy tidying up tip for you! The Tried Equestrian is both an online and brick and mortar showroom that has excellent, slightly-loved, and some new with tags, high end equestrian clothing. If you have some gently used riding clothes looking for a new home, you can sell your clothes on consignment through the shop. I purchased my fabulous Callidae shooling shirt through The Tried Equestrian and get compliments on it almost every time I wear it (I wear it to my day job too.)

@themustangfilm Robert Redford has a new film coming out mid March based on the true stories of prisoners who gentle wild Mustangs and although I haven’t seen it yet, I have a feeling it’s going to be great! I will be attending a screening next week and will have a chance to tour the Return to Freedom Ranch near Santa Barbara. Follow along on my Instagram account @saddleseekshorse to get a sneak peak of the festivities (I’m really hoping I get to take a selfie with Robert Redford. Fingers crossed! <swoon>)!

@myhorsebackview For a look at equestrianism in Spain, follow Silvia from My Horseback View. Her account is in Spanish, but you don’t need a command of the language to understand her passion for horses or enjoy her lovely photos. If you have a basic understanding of Spanish from high school, you might be able to get the gist of her many motivational riding quotes, many of them using the hashtag #montarsinmiedo (translation: ride without fear).

@warmbloodsandwine Taryn, a devoted dressage rider from Illinois, is newish on the Instagram scene but drawing a faithful following thanks to her dreamy photographs of horses, dogs, and equestrian lifestyle goodies. If you want snow pictures and the occasional Corgi, head on over to her account. Fun fact: Taryn rides in the same town I learned how to ride back in the day and boards with some friends I rode with in the 90s! #smallworld

@yulia_brat  Yulia Bratkovskaya With Grace Kelly looks and a hard core work ethic, Yulia moved to the U.S. from Moscow five years ago to pursue her dreams as a trainer. I was very impressed when she shared with me one of the greatest compliments she could ever receive is to hear from the equine bodyworker (I can’t remember now if it was a massage therapist or chiropractor) that the horses she schools are well-balanced, correct in their movement, and not sore. She beamed when she was telling me that. Her passion and compassion for horses is the real deal.
