Did you devour horse magazines when you were young? I sure did. I read Practical Horseman, Horseplay (now defunct), Horse and Rider, Equus, and Horse Illustrated. Well, I am tickled pink to share that I have an article in Horse Illustrated about my experiences using my Fitbit for riding!
The company sent me two magazines with my article and it’s a good thing because my Golden Retriever Tigger also devours horse magazines. I found this shredded version all over the floor of my living room. I have left myriad magazines on my coffee table over the years: Sunset, House Beautiful, Cooking Light, In Style, Sidelines, etc. They’ve all been safe. This one special issue of course was too tasty to leave alone! (Bad dog!)
Horse Blogger Collaboration Time!
This article about using fitness trackers for horseback riding was made possible thanks to the awesome collaboration of some of horse bloggers you should definitely get to know (if you haven’t already befriended them online).
Carey of Me Jump Pretty One Day was the amazing photographer who really knows how to take the best angle of a rider’s wrists. My blue Fitbit never looked so good. She is in San Diego with her funny chestnut Cosmo and I’m sure if you ever want to become a wrist model, she would be happy to help you create a portfolio.
Samantha of Haynet Blog (an excellent resource if you want to see myriad horse blogs from all around the world) got an iWatch last Christmas and shared detailed information about how she is able to track her very active horse lifestyle in the UK.
Christy a fellow Midwesterner of Dressage Fundamentals had very original ideas about using her Fitbit for riding–she tracks activity data to compare riding her two different horses. If you ride more than one horse, you should try her trick.
Kristen the photographer/writer behind If the Saddle Fits shared her experience using her FitBit Surge when she rides dressage. (She also features some enticing recipes on her blog!!! I’m getting hungry right now just thinking about it.)
If you missed my first blog post on Fitbit and riding you might want to trot over and check it out.
Do you ride and use a fitness tracker? What do you like about it? What are your greatest frustrations?
