The days are getting shorter which is always kind of depressing for equestrians and I think many people in general. It’s hard to get motivated to leave the house to pick up milk at the grocery store (which is something I should be doing at the moment) when it’s dark outside. And for some reason, barn time, although still the best part of the day, seems a little less fun with the element of darkness. Until now. You can combat the darkness, ride safer, and have your horse look super cool with the high visibility horse breastplate by Illumiseen!
Unlike a traditional breastplate made of dark leather, the Illumiseen LED breastplate is bursting with flash (literally) and designed to make you and your horse stand out. A barn friend showed her husband the video of Knight modeling the LED breastplate and he asked, “What’s that horse’s powers?”
(Disclaimer: Knight is not a super hero, but he is somewhat of a horse model. Also, Illumiseen reached out to me and gifted me the breastplate in exchange for this review.)
5 Benefits to Owning an Illumiseen LED Breastplate
- Safer road riding. I know some barns have access to miles and miles of trails, but before you get to the trails, you might have to cross a road. Wearing this breastplate will diminish the risk of the road part of your ride. Motorists will have increased opportunity to notice you with the LED lights.
- Hunter avoidance. If you ride in an area where there are hunters, advertise yourself as an equestrian, not a deer.
- Trail riding safety on a shared use trail. In my area there are lots of mountain bikers (including my husband who excitedly grabbed the Illumiseen once I opened the box and draped it across himself and said he wanted to wear it–to which I responded, “They make actual ones for bike riders and runners.”) To their credit, the bikers where I live are very cautious about the horses and mostly stop and get off their bikes, however there are narrower parts of the trail where the vegetation makes it harder to see what’s up ahead.
- Tron theme for Halloween!
- Disco theme for a costume class.
The Illumiseen LED Breastplate comes with three USB chargers (one for each LED part) and the device is completely rechargeable–you won’t need to hunt for batteries ever. There is also a lifetime guarantee. The snaps which attach to the saddle are heavy duty. It comes in seven fun colors ranging from bright orange, snow white, ruby red, cotton candy pink, sunburst yellow, royal blue, and neon green as seen here.
You can order the Illumiseen on Amazon. Its price tag is a small investment to enhance your riding safety.

Oooh I want one for trail riding!
You should totally get one. It was so funny, when I put it on for the pictures, there was a little girl next to the crossties. When I turned it on she let out a “Ooooohhh!” and her eyes got really big. It was so cute. I shoulda captured that on video.
This is great, I’m familiar with these for dogs but not horses. Perfect for dusk or dawn riding to help keep horse & rider safe!
Love & biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
This looks like a great product for so many different types of pets. Love the horse harness for trail rides… and think it would make an excellent dog harness for evening walks!
Wow, you’ll surely see any horse coming that’s wearing that! And Knight makes that look goooood.
Haha Tron theme! Love it! Knight is beautiful, you are both so lucky to have each other but I do not need to tell you that I am sure. I miss having horses. I tell my husband all of the time that they are just like big dogs, loyal and loving! The breastplate is awesome! If I had a horse I would get one for sure.
I walk Mr. N at night sometimes. He has a blinking light and I have a jacket that lights up. This looks much more visible though. I wonder if they make one in his size for dogs. A lot of the time they’re huge.
Wonderful product. Our dogs have hi viz vests and flashing collars. They may be on leashes, but I still want them lit up.
I’m not a big fan of the shorter, darker days either. Ugh. I love that the Illumiseen actually has LED lights on the harness. Not only is the color bright and I assume glows in the dark, but to also have actual lights is amazing. Ruby (our dog’s) harness does glow in the dark (kind of), but more light would be great.
This is a great product. I’m behind any product that protects our animals!
This could be a lifesaver! What a great idea. My sister needs the dog version for her little black Pomeranian. On a dark night you can’t even see her at the end of the leash.
I am not a horse person but this is a totally inspired idea!! This looks a top quality and life saving devise/ It looks comfortable too.
My goodness, in all honesty, if I saw a horse wearing this at night, without having read this post, it would give me a bit of a fright! But what a responsible idea for owners(horses, dogs, cats, etc) to proactively ensure their loved ones safety while out and about at night
Wow that is quite the disco breastplate- brilliant for trail riding at dusk. Kilo the pug and I have blinking lights, although we don’t tend to go far at night and we are not on the road or trails or anything.
Layla wears a flashlight at night when I walk her plus I try not to cross many streets to be safe
That’s bright!!! It also looks great on your horse.
This is such a cool idea! I live near a horse farm that could use something like this. There is a fairly busy street that dead ends into their farm and people have driven their cars through the fence there a number of times. Luckily, I haven’t heard of any of the horses being harmed in these incidents. I think a glowing harness like this would increase the likelihood that drivers would see the horses (and not run through the fence) as the days get shorter around here.
What a perfect way to keep your horse safe from vehicles if you are out on a walk in the dark
Oh, how I would have loved this when I had my horses! I used to try to hurry home from the trails and along the road when dusk approached. Love, love, love this!
Okay, let’s talk about how awesome it is that there’s a TRON and Disco theme for these!! Too cool! I’ve never ridden a horse, so this may be an ignorant question, but the glowing doesn’t distract the horse at all? Considering it’s like a dog harness as far as it’s location, I doubt it would but I am still curious.
Can they be adjusted for size differences or are different sizes available for purchase?
Thank you for your enthusiasm! My horse was not distracted at all. He must have known he was glowing, but he didn’t mind. I was curious how the other horses would respond to him. Nobody spooked or acted alarmed. They can be adjusted for size differences. 🙂
