Shedding season is now in full force and I have Golden Retriever tumbleweeds hanging out in corners of my house to prove it. Recently I had a chance to try HandsOn Gloves on both my horse Knight and dog Tigger to see how they worked. Find out which animal I prefer to get my hands on with the HandsOn Gloves. By the way, I was sent the gloves in exchange for my candid review.

I’ll be honest, Knight doesn’t have a ton of hair to shed. First of all, he never really gets much of a winter coat as the winters here in Southern California are mild. Also, this year I body clipped and blanketed him, so he’s remained fairly sleek. But I did use the HandsOn Gloves on a few areas where he was dusty from his stall shavings and where he had a couple of crusty, dirty spots. The HandsOn Gloves worked like a charm.

Not Like Other Grooming Brushes

What I like about the HandsOn Gloves is once you put them on to groom, they’re partnered to your fingers and you don’t have to exert as much effort to groom as you would holding on to a traditional curry comb or stiff brush.

Think of how most horse brushes require the task of holding the brush with your hand and simultaneously pressing down to achieve the cleaning motion. With HandsOn Gloves it’s like you get to skip a step–no holding required. Your hands are freed up to simply glide over your horse or dog’s coat.

I also like that there is a left and right hand in the set. You can cover more territory on your pet’s body, thereby speeding up the grooming process. Another plus is that the gloves are comfortable

I will say that I used only light pressure on Knight and he really prefers being groomed with a stiff brush and body brush. If he were a hairy Thelwell pony, I am sure Knight would benefit from ongoing use of the HandsOn Gloves.

As I realized that the deshedding feature of the gloves was a bit overkill for a sleek Thoroughbred who stays fairly clean, I immediately thought, “Tigger!” Our Golden Retriever is really hairy right now and it’s hard to stay on top of his grooming.

HandsOn Perks for Pups

It’s not an overstatement to say that Tigger loved the HandsOn Gloves! So much in fact that he walked in between my legs and stood under me, which is what he does when he’s being goofy. With every stroke blond fuzz detached from my dog. He even smiled when I rubbed him on his neck.

What was great about using the gloves on Tigger is that the hair that was being released from his coat never got stuck on the gloves, it would easily lift off on its own with the movement of my hands. This is very different from a more traditional dog brush in which the fuzzy hair is wedged between the teeth of the brush and I have to keep defuzzing the brush. (I brushed Tigger in the back yard. I would not recommend using this in the house lest the hair fly around.)

Another great feature of the HandsOn Gloves is that they come in various sizes, ranging from small to XL and there’s even a junior size for children.

The Verdict: My pair of HandsOn Gloves is no dog and pony show! It’s the real deal–an innovative grooming tool that simplifies grooming to make your pets look and feel great. I have the HandsOn gloves and have only tried on the horse, but I love them! I use year-round on my left hand to loosen dirt and hold my brush in my right hand. I also use the glove to clean my brush as I groom. In the summer they are good for shampooing to really get the suds down to the skin. My horse has been shedding for what seems like forever this spring, so I’ve gotten pounds of hair off with them!

I think that’s smart to make use of the non-dominant hand (at least I’m right handed and it’s awkward to groom holding a brush in my left hand). Thanks for sharing!

I was so excited to see what you thought! I recently bought a pair of Hands On Gloves to try. Like Knight, Ferrous has a thinner coat and doesn’t shed much. But my equine massage clients have been bathing me in their hair. I haven’t used them yet but I’m so excited to try them!

I love these too. I don’t have him anymore, but I used to have a very sensitive TB who hated grooming. But I believe it’s really good for the coat for all horses to have a good curry a few times a week. He actually loved these gloves and let me rub him all over with them.

That’s so interesting your sensitive TB really liked the HandsOn gloves. Great point for all the other TB folks out there. 🙂

I just got a pair of Hands On Gloves too. Worked especially well on my Gypsy Vanner! I had enough hair for two horses!
