Are you ready for some fashion forward Italian style in your equestrian wardrobe? I’m excited to share with you For Horses, a line of horse riding clothes designed and made in Italy that will dazzle you in the saddle.
Thank you For Horses for sponsoring this post.
Even though For Horses is based in the beautiful land of glorious gelato serving its European fans from the e Shop For Horses Europe, U.S. customers can claim Italian equestrian style by shopping online at For Horses America.
Maggy Hoodie
The Maggy Leisure Wear hoodie has a smooth exterior layer that repels dirt and allows you to layer easily. It does not feel like your college sweatshirt hoodie as it’s much more refined. This ladies hoodie is really an all-season item, perfect for brisk summer mornings or an added base layer for under a heavier jacket and vest for winter, and everything in between.
The For Horses crystal logo on the sleeve and the horse embroidery on the front give it a dose of upscale, not traditionally seen in a hoodie. One of the most important features this women’s riding hoodie possesses is its breathability. This is paramount for equestrian riding clothes since we riders are definitely athletes. I know even on a chilly day here in California, I quickly warm up as my heart rate rises while I trot, canter and jump.
Now for the Maggy LeisureWear hoodie technical details: the material has UV protection and is made to dry quickly. The fabric is 85% polyester and 15% Lycra and you’ll want to throw it in the washer on the cold setting and then just hang it to dry. You can, and should, skip the dryer. Easy peasy!
The Maggy women’s riding hoodie comes in six colors, mine is the “Melange Grey,” which is a lighter, heather grey, but it comes in a darker grey, black, red, green and navy. As far as sizing, I would size up as this is more of a snug, figure-hugging hoodie. The size range is from XXS to XL.
I like the neutral aspect of my Maggy hoodie as it looks great with really every color of breeches I have in my wardrobe, including my old-school rust breeches. It would also pair well with a pair of jeans.
For Horses Remie Breeches
I own numerous pairs of riding breeches and I can honestly say these For Horses Remie breeches are quite different from any brand in my closet. When I first tried them on, I liked the details with the shimmery logo on the back and I thought the small Italian flag button on the leg added a nice touch. The belt loops are sewn in at an artsy angle and it’s cute. But a pleasing design is one thing, how would they work in the saddle?
To be honest, I was skeptical about the full seat. I own one pair of silicone knee patch breeches from another brand and although they are cute, every time I post the trot, the silicone squeaks. “Squeak, squeak–pause–squeak, squeak!” It kinda drives me crazy. I was also concerned I would be too sticky in the saddle with the full seat. Another thing that threw me off was the noise of the grippy inner knees and thighs from my legs brushing against each other as I walked. But once I got going, walking around the farm, grooming Knight, etc., I didn’t notice it anymore.
What a fantastic surprise! Not only did the grippy part of the breeches not squeak while I was riding, but I had a nice grip in the saddle. I felt the perfect balance of a little stickiness and also being able to move freely. I believe this is because the silicone is in like a mini polka dot pattern, not long pieces of silicone.
The For Horses breeches ride like a dream. They are multi-stretch and comfortable with a “sock” bottom that lays flat against your lower shin and doesn’t bunch up. One other feature of the silicone worth mentioning is it’s in a cool horse pattern with an FH incorporated into it–a lovely touch. If you look closely at the picture of me putting on my boot you might be able to discern the design.
The feel of these breeches is also very different from other breeches I’ve owned. The best comparison I can make texture-wise is if you merged Tailored Sportman breeches with Botori riding leggings. They are lightweight and breathable. The breeches are mysteriously thin, but don’t show awkward panty lines. I intentionally wore panties that show lines in my yoga pants, for example–I wanted to see how it would work out with the For Horses breeches. There was the slightest of lines visible. Nothing at all to be bothered by, and I’m sure no one else would notice or look.
Another wonderful feature of these women’s riding breeches is the material is quite dirt and hair repellent. They actually held up so nicely from one ride and afternoon at the farm I wore them a second time without washing and they looked almost as good as new.
Speaking of wearing them for more than one ride if you had to, I haven’t owned them long enough to travel with them, but my guess is these would hand wash nicely in a hotel room or Airbnb sink and dry overnight. I washed them in cold water with like colors and then hung them up to air dry. Like the Maggy hoodie, you don’t want to put these breeches in the dryer.
(If you also like to ride and travel read this blog post about my recent equestrian getaway to California wine country.)
The Remie breeches are mid-rise and have a flattering fit for someone like me–a girl with hips. They come in nine colors including a gorgeous emerald, brown and mine are the dove grey. I really like this color because it’s so neutral you can pair it with really any color of top. The Italian sizing is different from what those of us in the U.S. are used to, but on the For Horses USA website there is a good sizing guide which will help you determine the right breeches size for you.
From casual street to stable looks with the Maggy hoodie to a more tailored, classy vibe with the Remie breeches, make For Horses your next go-to for your luxury equestrian apparel needs.

Hi Susan,
Thanks for the review! I will definitely try a pair of their breeches since I am constantly on the quest for the perfect full-seat. I own a pair of full seat silicon breeches and you hit the nail on the head with the SQUEAK, SQUEAK! 🙂 Mine even would slowly creep down during my lesson – being tugged each time I sat in the saddle. I would warn my trainer, “Watch out! You might get mooned!” Hahaha!
Love your reviews!
Jill
Oh my gosh! The part about you almost mooning your trainer had me loling! I’m glad I’m not the only one annoyed by the silicone squeaks. And yes, you must try these breeches. No squeaks, I guarantee. And a very flattering fit. 🙂 Thanks for commenting.
Amazing article!
