I tried another horse Sunday. I liked him enough to schedule a return visit to try him a second time for this Wednesday.

My trainer liked him too.

When I climbed up the mounting block (he’s tall) and hopped on, I just felt like I belonged there. On this horse.

I don’t want to get my hopes up and say too much about a horse that might not work out, but he has a canter you could float on for hours.

On my Monday morning commute up the 57 freeway, I got to thinking more about this pretty horse that I don’t want to think too much about.

I pulled into my staff-designated parking spot and from about 7:55 to 8:00 a.m., with The Message on Sirius playing and the air conditioner blowing, (it got to over 100 here today) I texted my trainer to say that instead of a second trip to try him, why not get a vet to join us and just do a pre-purchase? After all, “I know he’s a good horse.”

Sometimes you just know.

I ended that text with the word “Gulp!”

A few minutes later I got a response that said, “Let’s do it!! I will contact the vet if you want.”

And so, instead of teaching 7th graders about William the Conqueror and Charlemagne this Wednesday afternoon, I will be near San Diego with this horse I don’t want to fall for–yet.

If it works out, if he is sound, I will tell you all about him.

But for now I’ll just say that he’s tall, dark, and handsome, and I might have just met my knight. . .in shining horseshoes.
