One benefit of being a horse blogger is when you get to actually meet other horse bloggers and befriend them in person!
This past weekend Carey and Cosmo from Me Jump Pretty One Day hosted me for an afternoon and evening of horsey fun. And we pretty much talked non-stop about figure of 8 nosebands, blue stirrup irons and mushroom-based supplements to name a few topics. Then we went to see Beezie Madden win the Del Mar International Grand Prix. Don’t you wish you were there too?
It’s nice to have a buddy in real life who is as passionate about subjects such as:
- riders we admire (Beezie, Karl Cook, etc.)
- horses we have crushes on (Carey loves Flexible and I’m partial to Argento)
- equestrian fashion (Rompfh has great breeches apparently and there’s a cool One K helmet with retractable sunglasses–thanks for the heads up, Carey).
In short, we totally horse-geeked out.
I’ve known of Cosmo, the lanky red warmblood, for over a year but had never had the pleasure of making his acquaintance. He did not disappoint.
Carey hopped on bareback and rode around the arena which has an enviable view overlooking San Diego. The sunset was pretty. I got to take pictures of the awesome riding.
Carey warned me that Cosmo would slime me. In fact the purple shirt I’m wearing was one she brought out for me to wear so I’d had presentable clothing for the Grand Prix.
After Carey took a few spins around the arena at a walk and trot, she offered me the chance to also ride bareback. (We were kind of in a time crunch to get to the Grand Prix at Del Mar, hence the bareback cruise).
I asked if Cosmo would be wild. Not a chance. I felt like I was 12 again.
When I handed Carey my phone I didn’t realize she was taking several other pictures until the next day. I found this gem on my phone. I literally laughed out loud.
Carey brought her hubby and I brought a close friend/former roommate to the show. It was amazing–the questions from the non-horsey attendees sitting on either side of us. The stream of comments were fantastic enough to warrant a future blog post focusing on Grand Prix jumping through the eyes of the uninitiated.
One thing Beezie and I have in common (besides the bay horse) is we both won that day in Del Mar. She got a Longines watch and a fancy cooler and some cash. I got to hang out with my fun horse blogger friend and introduce my non-horse friend to the sport I love. And I also got to ride and get slimed on by Cosmo–possibly the biggest win of the day.
Your Turn: Have you made new friends (that you’ve met live and in person) through blogs?

I had so much fun with you and was more than happy to share some Cosmo time!. He was also happy to meet and slime you.
Also, LOVE all the pics!
What fun and great pictures! I have yet to meet any fellow bloggers. Hopefully one day we can all do a huge meet up somewhere.
Where do you live, Erin? CA is great in the winter.
I live in CA… only you need add an N to the end. As in Canada. Toronto to be exact. CAN is not great in the winter, at least not where I am. Sooo cold!
I have the pleasure of living not-too-far from super blogger Fran Jurga. I always enjoy catching up with her and would love to meet more bloggers.
I got to meet Fran last year at the American Horse Publications conference in South Carolina! That’s cool you’re kinda neighbors. She had a great presentation about blogging and other social media tools like Storify. A very knowledgeable woman (and she seemed very nice too).
I have loved making new horsey friends through blogging. I have only just started so I haven’t met any in person yet but I hope to do so in the future. You look like you had so much fun!
Yes, I’ve met up with HorseSage at a show! Super fun to meet a fellow blogger.
And, definitely good idea with the post on the show from a non rider perspective! Want to read!
Do you ever show here in SoCal? It would be fun to meet you. 🙂
I never really go down to SoCal. It’s been years, sigh. Would be really fun to meet up though! Maybe we can get you up here for some type of event – Cavalia, anything! 🙂
Beautiful photos, Susan! Looks like it was a perfect day:)
