It rained here in SoCal (hallelujah) and the arenas were closed (sad face). No biggie, I decided to hand walk my beast. When I grabbed him from the stall he was a filthy mess. Then I noticed his legs. <GASP!>

We suspect he got cast. I’m not sure how a horse gets cast in a 24 x 24 stall. Where there’s a will, there’s a way? And wouldn’t you know, today was the day I mailed in my entry for a horse show at the end of the month.

So I got to both hose and hand walk Knight today. He walked like the world’s oldest, slowest horse away from the stall. I thought, “Oh no! He’s so sore!” After hosing and doing a large loop around the property, he switched to an extended walk toward his stall. He knew there was hay waiting for him.

Sorry for the gore. I noticed the gashes in the order of the pictures below.

He was a good boy for cold hosing.

Ointment was applied, I just couldn’t take a picture with the goo all over my hands.

Happily eating his bute with sweet feed.

Pardon the crusty beet pulp/rice bran bucket. I swear it’s relatively new. #MessyEater

And now to make you forget the bloody legs, some flowers from my garden.

That looks nasty, poor (silly) Knight.
One of my upcoming stories, Take a Chance, recounts the tale of the world’s most accident prone horse. Like all most of the stories, it’s mostly based on a real horse character and in fact I left out some of the awful things that happened to her because it was becoming long and boring! It’ll be out in about 6 weeks, watch out for it. You’ll feel a lot better about Knight!

oops almost all of the stories, but you probably got that!

I read your first story while on the plane to Rolex. The rest are on my “Summer Reads” list. 🙂 I admire you so much for doing the e-books. Very cool. Maybe I’ll give that a shot one day.

Thank you! I do too. I am not sure how much time off this is going to require. Less than two weeks to our first show (just a schooling show, but still. . .).

And actually, I had a lesson Monday night and he was the best he’s been in weeks. I felt guilty hopping on with those gashes. But it didn’t seem to bother him a bit.
