My new horse, Knight, got to meet his “Aunt” Beth yesterday. He was smitten by her hair, and tried chewing it. I tried taking another horse selfie and it just didn’t work out that well. I think I need a longer arm.
When I turned him out in the round pen he literally stood in one spot. Then he began to sniff manure. Then he walked about two steps. He is an old man horse in a young horse body. Riding is another story. He is very forward–not in a bad way.
When I began working him in the arena under saddle, there was a wild party going on up the hill. It’s directly above the arena and I could see partygoers on top of what is essentially a small cliff. Drums were pounding, a DJ was talking on some kind of sound system and a crowd of people was celebrating. My ex-racehorse took it all in stride. Nothing phases him. Well, there was a little boy who came running past the arena and Knight planted his feet and every muscle tensed for a half second and then he moved forward as if it didn’t happen. That I can live with.
I forgot to tell Knight that Beth is a chef. Maybe next time she comes she’ll bring a carrot cake!

He’s thinking “my new owner is a weirdo!”
I think you’re right.
YAY more photos!
I reckon Knight was thinking :
“You put your left foot in, your left out, your left foot in and you shake it all about….”
Hahaha, the family horse photo is great!
I love how these personalities come out right away…
“He is an old man horse in a young horse body…” ha!

I love the family photograph, and Knight’s expression in it 🙂 Best of luck with him, OTTB are super!
