I love honey on my toast, in my tea and now, thanks to the genius of W. F. Young, the makers of Absorbine, I even take honey on my horse! That’s right, Manuka honey is one of the not-so-secret ingredients of Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care, the latest equine balm in the lineup of trusted Absorbine products.

Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care is the first product on the market fusing the natural power of Manuka Honey together with MicroSilver BG to heal wounds fast while simultaneously soothing the skin and taking away the drive to bite and scratch at the area. Available in two convenient forms, a spray bottle and ointment, Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care has been proven to halt 99.9% of bacteria instantly. That’s impressive!
Silver Honey for Horses and Dogs
Both versions, the Silver Honey spray and ointment, use the pure strength of Mother Nature’s strongest antimicrobials to heal sores, scrapes, abrasions and more super fast! In addition to having two forms of the application, there is a Silver Honey product for your canine BFF too. Silver Honey Hot Spot and Wound Care effectively fights hot spots and dermatitis in dogs as well. For those of you dog-owning equestrians, you’ll want to keep Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care in your groom box at the barn and Silver Honey Hot Spot and Wound Care in your dog supply closet at home.
In case you are wondering how MicroSilver BG™ is different from colloidal silver, its micro-sized particles provide the highest level of safety for silver used topically for wound care. This allows effective antimicrobial action that literally clings to the skin and hair follicles. In addition, MicroSilver BG™ protects the area from unwanted germs while boosting the skin’s natural defenses and maintaining the skin’s beneficial flora.
Fun Fact: the day I took the photographs of my spray bottle of Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care at the barn, a friend confessed to me that she had once tried using Manuka honey from the grocery store on a sore her horse had. When I asked how it worked out, she said not well–the honey attracted flies. What’s great about Silver Honey is the formula contains a bittering agent (so it’s not sweet like straight up honey). This will deter your animals, especially dogs with persistent hot spots, from continuing to lick at their wound.
Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care also stimulates your horse or dog’s immune response, allowing them to shed dead tissues and promote the growth of new tissue. Its one-of-a-kind formula reduces inflammation and provides comfort concurrently.
Thoughts on Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care in a Spray v. Ointment
I used the Silver Honey on an existing nick Knight had on his left front leg, I’m guessing from too much romping in the pasture with his buddy. It sprayed out easily and is almost clear (look closely at my index finger in the above picture). It has a very mild, almost indiscernible fragrance.
The spray bottle is recommended for use with larger areas of wounds/sores. In hindsight, for a vertical surface area like Knight’s leg, the ointment would have probably been a little easier to apply.
When I initially applied the Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care on Knight’s leg he thought I was doing carrot stretches, part of our normal routine. What a goof!
All in all, if you are a horse and dog owner who likes to use more natural-based products without questionable chemicals, you need to try out this exciting new wound care product. If you’re like me and have been using Absorbine items since the early days of your horse-craziness (I remember the orange liniment bottles from days of yore) you will feel good applying Silver Honey Rapid Wound Care on your animals. Save the honey in your pantry for tea and toast.
